Frequently asked questions

Q. What time do we need to check in / out of the cottage?

A. The cottage is available to guests from 4pm on Friday though to 10am the following Friday.

Q. If we bring a blow up bed is it possible to sleep more than four people?

A. We ask that the occupancy of the property should never exceed four people.

Q. Are there any kitchen supplies?

A. Kitchen towel, toilet rolls, washing-up liquid and dishwasher tablets are all provided. However there are no grocery provisions.

Q. Can I book a part-week let?

A. Due to the popularity of the cottage and the area we do get booked up quite quickly and therefore lettings are made on a weekly basis only.

Q. Can I book over a weekend that includes a Sunday night and depart on Monday?

A. Unfortunately it is not possible as the weekly changeover day is Friday.

Q. May we bring our dog?

A. Rowan Cottage was once a traditional Highland Croft House and is situated within common grazing land. Because the tradition of Crofting is still in practice today, for your pets’ safety, we are unable to accept pets. Any infringement of this condition will result in guests being asked to leave immediately.

Q. Is smoking permitted within the property?

A. There is a strict no smoking policy and we kindly ask that guests adhere to this.

Q. What happens if we break something while we are in the house?

A. Although we understand that accidents happen, on changeover day we ask that you contact us to advise of the damage. Dependant on the damage, the cost of repair or replacement may be chargeable.

Q. What is the cancellation policy?

A. If you need to cancel the reservation for any reason we must be notified in writing immediately. In the event of a cancellation every effort to re-let the cottage will be made and you will be reimbursed in full (minus a £25 administration charge). If we are unable to re-let, cancellation costs will be incurred as follows:

  • More than 6 weeks before booking commences your deposit will be forfeited
  • Less than 6 weeks you will be liable to pay the full cost of rental to re-let
Q. Is there a discount for rentals of longer than a week?

A. Due to the popularity of Rowan Cottage and in fairness to our return visitors, the rate has been calculated to be fair and cost effective by comparison to other holiday letting outlets, therefore the rate published on our website is a fixed rate regardless of the duration of the booking.

Q. What happens if we have a problem during our stay?

A. Upon final payment of your booking you will be advised of the number to call in the unlikely event you should have a problem with the property during your stay.

Q. Do we really need a car?

A. The Applecross Peninsula is considered to be one of the remotest areas in Britain and although there are taxis available in neighbouring towns, the nearest town of Shieldaig is 15 minutes by car. Therefore transportation is essential in order to make the most of the region.
